Beginning Beekeeping Online Course
This course is designed specifically for beginners and features on-demand video lessons available 24/7. The course covers the fundamentals of first-year beekeeping and allows you to learn at your own pace.
We've packed a tremendous amount of practical information into this course, including the three types of honey bees, equipment requirements, seasonal hive management, and visits to Beekeeper Joe's apiary, where you can observe real-world beekeeping techniques and hive inspections.
Our goal is to teach you everything you need to successfully navigate your first year of beekeeping through engaging video instruction that lets you see techniques demonstrated step-by-step.
In addition to the video lessons, you'll receive:
• Recommended equipment lists and purchasing guidance
• One year of email mentoring from Beekeeper Joe
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement recognizing your commitment to learning the art and science of beekeeping.
Getting Started in Beekeeping
We recommend the following steps for all beginning beekeepers:
• Enroll in a Beginning Beekeeping course.
• Join the Beaver Valley Area Beekeeping Association.
• Register your hives with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
• Take your time completing these initial steps. Don't buy bees and equipment before you have a plan and the knowledge to get started successfully.
Our next in-person Beginning Beekeeping Class is scheduled for January. This comprehensive, full-day class runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is designed to provide new beekeepers with the knowledge and confidence needed to start their first hive.
The class will be held in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania. Pre-registration is required, and seating is limited. Simply send us an email to request a registration form and reserve your spot.
Can't make the in-person class? Enroll in our Beginning Beekeeping Online Course and Beekeeper Joe will help ensure you get off to a successful start.
